MVP IV Series Controllerless air lift pump
The MVP IV Pump uses an internal float that responds to the fluid level within the pump body to cycle the pump automatically, based on the recharge of the well. As the pump fills with fluid, the float moves to the upper position, activating the mechanical arm which opens the air inlet valve. This allows air to enter the pump chamber, simultaneously pressurizing the vessel and closing the upper and lower inlet check valves. As a result, the fluid moves to the surface. As the fluid is emptied from the vessel, the float returns to the lower limit off position closing the air inlet and opening the air exhaust valve. During the filling cycle, air is vented through the exhaust port and the cycle is automatically repeated. The thread together design provides complete access to all the internal components. This makes it possible to change pump loading configurations easily. The pump head can be easily removed should access to the air inlet and exhaust valves be needed.

Positive Valve ShiftingThe air inlet and air exhaust valves are incorporated on the same side of the pump to impart a mechanical advantage which makes the valve shift fully and reliably. This leverage is seven times greater than would be available if the valves were located on opposite sides of the pump head.
The new free-floating actuating arm ensures a positive air valve shift. The design permits the use of larger and simpler air exhaust valves to eliminate air quality and stalling concerns. The poppet design valves provide a larger surface area improving air efficiencies. Every MVP IV pump includes the override feature allowing the pump and discharge line to be emptied from the surface reducing the pump’s weight during its removal. An additional 1⁄4 in air line is required.
The MVP IV features an all-stainless steel linkage system with Teflon bushings with a synthetic glass resin float to insure reliability and chemical compatibility. Stainless steel floats are optional. For added durability, all MVP IV pumps have a stainless steel body. The MVP IV pump uses clampless barb fittings for the 3/4 in discharge and 3/8 in air exhaust lines. The air supply uses a 1/4 in PushLok fitting. Quick connect fittings (TR-80910) are available as an option.
Flow rates range from 8 gpm on top-loading pumps to 13 gpm on standard pumps. Pump flow rates will be affected by the amount of head above the pump. Should lower flow rates be required, the flow control valve TR-698 can be installed on the exhaust line of the MVP IV pump. This will allow the user to restrict the air exhaust which regulates the fill time of the pump. It is important to properly size the air supply and discharge lines to accommodate for friction loss.
Loading ConfigurationsTop loading pumps are selected for pumping total fluids (LNAPL and ground water simultaneously). The top loading pumps will produce flow rates of up to 8 gpm depending on the head above the pump. Water table draw-down will be maintained at a level corresponding to the top inlet of the pump. Shorter length pumps are available for lower drawdown requirements.
Bottom loading pumps are selected for dissolved phase, DNAPL or leachate applications. When installing the pump, the head is positioned at the depth of the desired water table depression. During start-up, the pump fills from both the top and bottom inlet ports. As the water table depression zone stabilizes, the pump will fill from the bottom only. The bottom loading pump can be configured with a closed top to reduce the possibility of debris entering through the inlet. This may be particularly useful in leachate applications or applications where floating debris is present.
